BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council has approved the bid received by the Iowa Department of Transportation for the reconstruction of a portion of South Marshall Street, from First Street to a spot south of Prairie Street. The IDOT received four bids, with the low bid received from Godbersen-Smith Construction Company from Ida Grove. The low bid was $782,613.20 and according to City Engineer Wayne Schwartz, was roughly 12% below the estimates. Schwartz told the Council that the latest start date would be mid-July. He said the earliest may be within a month.
Because of the traffic on South Marshall and due to the number of residents that would be affected, the project will be done in stages with a completion in 65 working days. The work will also include some storm sewer work on the south end of the construction project.
