BOONE, Iowa—The Boone Area Humane Society was apparently very successful with their 2nd Annual Pawty for Paws, held at the Seven Oaks Lodge last Friday evening. The second time event was planned to raise money for the Society to help with the purchase of a newer vehicle. The current van has been in operation for several years. Last year, the first Pawty for Paws raised about $17,000 that was directed to the remodeling of the old shelter to both preserve the building and make better use of space. Additional improvements are still needed, but going into this most recent event, it became evident the van was in need of replacement. The exact amount raised was not available at the time of this writing, but unofficially, board members seemed pleased with the results.
The Boone Area Humane Society has gone through some trying times in the past several months. The board voted to discharge their manager and began and search for a new Shelter Manager. Some on the Boone City Council questioned the amount being paid to the Society for services provided to the community. Even with that happening, Board members and volunteers put together the Pawty for Paws and are moving ahead on the other big fund raiser for the Humane Society, the annual Rummage and Bake sale to be held later in April.
