TORONTO (AP) – Al Horford led Atlanta into the NBA post-season for the sixth straight year with 26 points in a 107-88 win over Toronto. The Hawks locked down the playoff spot by going on 16-0 run in the fourth quarter when Horford scored 10 of his points.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Reggie Evans was a beast on the backboard, pulling down a career high 26 rebounds to go along with 22 points in Brooklyn’s 111-93 win over Portland. The Nets earned their 20th road win, tying a franchise record.
BOSTON (AP) – Brendan Gallagher scored the only goal in the shootout in the sixth round to give Montreal a 5-4 win over Boston that moved the Canadiens in front of the Bruins for the top spot in the NHL’s Eastern Conference. Montreal’s Andrei Markov’s set the stage for the shootout with a power play goal with 8.2 seconds left in regulation.
UNDATED (AP) – Iowa, BYU and Baylor earned trips to the NIT semifinals in New York where they will be joined by Maryland. The Hawkeyes ended Virginia’s 19-game home court winning streak 75-64; BYU got 25 points from Tyler Hawes in a 79-62 win over Southern Mississippi; and the Bears topped Providence 79-68 behind Pierre Jackson’s 20 points and 13 assists.
EVANSTON,Ill. (AP) – Longtime Duke assistant Chris Collins is the new head basketball coach at Northwestern, where they have never had a team in the NCAA tournament. That will be one of the goals for Collins who takes over for Bill Carmody, who was fired after 13 seasons. Collins is the son of Philadelphia 76ers coach Doug Collins.
