BOONE, Iowa—Emergency personnel in Boone responded to a report of a minor derailment in the Union Pacific rail yard in Boone early Thursday afternoon. Emergency personnel were told that the derailment may include a hazardous material. Boone Fire Chief Justin Adams was among the first on the scene and said the public was not in any danger. Adams says a set of wheels on a rail did jump the tracks, but the car remained upright. The car did contain a hazardous material. Adams says the Fire Department and conducted an inspection and found the load to be secure. The Union Pacific personnel in the yard have begun planning to deal with the derailed car. It’s not know if the hazardous load will need to be transferred or if they will be able to leave it on the rail car. Again, Boone Fire Chief Justin Adams said the public was never in any danger from the minor derailment.
