BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Board of Supervisors want to talk about public concerns about alcohol being made available for sale on the Boone County Fair Grounds during the Boone County Fair. The Supervisors placed the issue on their agenda for Wednesday morning. It’s not known with members of the Fair Board will be available for the meeting. There has been no formal word from the Fair Board about making alcohol available during the run of the Boone County Fair, but the issue has surfaced before and on more than one occasion. There are events when alcohol has been allowed on the Fair Grounds and probably the most controversial have been ultimate fighting events. Last summer an event promoted by Rick Tasler, Madrid Police Chief, failed to gain Boone City Council approval for the transfer of a liquor license. That issue was not about alcohol being served, but the security arrangements. The challenge for the Fair Board has been making the Boone County Fair sustainable. Fairs are required to compete with many other events and activities for the public’s leisure dollars.
