BOONE, Iowa—Representative Chip Baltimore chairs the House Judiciary Committee and says he expects there could be some long days next week for committee members. Next week is funnel week and that means that most bills need to move out of committee and to the floor of the respective chamber by next Friday. Baltimore says the Judiciary Committee has moved out several bills, but still has a couple of dozen of bills that may draw quite a bit of attention. There are several bills that are related to firearms and ammunition, some of which may or may not move on. There is a bill that deals with city attorneys and county attorneys revealing potential conflicts of interest during the performance of their duties. There is also a bill dealing with medical malpractice issues, something Governor Terry Branstad has pushed for in an effort to help doctors locate in rural areas of the state. Baltimore says he expects his committee will move out several bills by the end of next week.
