UNDATED (AP) – A person with knowledge of the trade tells The Associated Press that the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to acquire quarterback Alex Smith from San Francisco. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade does not become official until March 12, when the NFL’s new business year begins. Another person familiar with the deal says the 49ers will get a second-round draft pick in April, the No. 34 pick overall, and a conditional pick in the 2014 draft.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – A person familiar with the matter says the NCAA is alleging that former Miami booster Nevin Shapiro was responsible for providing about $170,000 in impermissible benefits to Hurricanes athletes, recruits, coaches and others between 2002 and 2010. The person says the NCAA alleges Shapiro spent at least $90,000 in an effort to get NFL players Vince Wilfork and Antrel Rolle to sign with a sports agency he was involved with, and another $56,000 on “meals, entertainment, clothing, jewelry, travel, lodging and cash” on football players, recruits and others.

NEW YORK (AP) – The NBA has handed down one-game suspensions to Indiana center Roy Hibbert and Golden State forward David Lee for starting an altercation that drifted into the stands Tuesday night. Hibbert was ejected after the skirmish, which began when he and Lee exchanged shoves under the basket after a missed shot. Lee sat out last night’s loss to the Knicks and Hibbert will be unavailable for tonight’s game against the Clippers.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Jimmie Johnson’s second Daytona 500 victory comes with another big prize. The primary sponsor of his car, Lowe’s, has signed a two-year contract extension with Hendrick Motorsports through the 2015 NASCAR season. The extension is concurrent with Johnson’s contract with Hendrick, which also runs through 2015.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) – Four players for two-time defending national champion Alabama have been dismissed from school following their arrests after two robberies on campus. A university spokeswoman says that after a judicial review, linebackers D.J. Pettway and Tyler Hayes, safety Eddie Williams and H-back Brent Calloway are no longer enrolled.
