NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco (KLAK’-oh) says he doesn’t anticipate any problems re-signing with the now that his old deal has expired. The MVP of Sunday’s Super Bowl was outstanding during the postseason, throwing for 1,140 yards, 11 touchdowns and no interceptions in four games. He could wind up with one of the biggest deals in NFL history, perhaps commanding somewhere in the neighborhood of $20 million a year.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) – New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu (LAN’-droo) and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell (guh-DEHL’) both say they don’t think the 34-minute power failure during the Super Bowl will hurt the Big Easy’s chances of landing the 2018 NFL championship game. In an interview Monday with WWL-AM, Landrieu said league owners were impressed with his city’s performance — a sentiment echoed by Goodell at a morning news conference.

NEW YORK (AP) – Sunday’s Super Bowl stands as the third most-watched program in U.S. television history. The Nielsen Co. said an estimated 108.4 million people watched the Baltimore Ravens’ 34-31 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, down by about two million over the previous two Super Bowls. Ratings were hurt by a power outage that caused a 34-minute delay in the third quarter, and the Ravens ability to take a 28-6 lead on the second-half kickoff.

UNDATED (AP) – Indiana is the fifth team in as many weeks to move to the top of The Associated Press men’s basketball poll. The Hoosiers claimed 58 of 65 first-place votes, while second-ranked Florida picked up the other seven. Michigan fell from first to third and is followed by Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga, Arizona, Miami, Syracuse and Ohio State.

DETROIT (AP) – The Detroit Tigers have avoided salary arbitration with right-hander Max Scherzer (SHUR’-zur) by working out a one-year pact worth over $6.7 million. Scherzer was 16-7 with a 3.74 ERA and 231 strikeouts during the 2012 regular season before going 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in the postseason, helping Detroit reach the World Series.
