NEW ORLEANS (AP) – The Baltimore Ravens opened an early 22-point lead and then held off a furious San Francisco comeback to beat the Niners 34-31 to win Super Bowl 47. The game was marred by a 35-minute delay because of a power outage at the Superdome.

NEW ORLEANS (AP)- Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was named Super Bowl MVP, capping a nearly perfect postseason. Flacco tossed three touchdowns in the Super Bowl to give him 11 TDs and no interceptions in the postseason.

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama says the threat of concussions for football players means that everything possible should be done to improve their safety – especially players from youth football leagues through college. Obama, who has two daughters, reiterated his position that, if he had a son, he would have to think about whether he would let him play football.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) – Phil Mickelson is celebrating his first PGA Tour victory of the year with a wire-to-wire win in the Phoenix Open that included an opening-round 11-under 60. Mickelson shot a 4-under 67 to finish at 28-under 256, two strokes off the PGA Tour record set by Tommy Armour III in the 2003 Texas Open.

WASHINGTON (AP) – In the NHL, the Pittsburgh Penguins completed a four-point Super Bowl weekend with a 6-3 rout of Washington in the Nation’s Capital. Chris Kunitz recorded a hat trick for the Penguins, who’ve won three straight and four of five to take the lead in the Atlantic Division.
