BOONE, Iowa—The official ribbon cutting ceremony was held Friday morning for the new Walmart Super Center on the south side of Boone. The 120,000 square foot store would easily hold the previous building with room to spare. The larger store also requires more people, in 90 more than were working before. Officials say Walmart now employees 187 associates at their Boone store. The biggest expansion will be the grocery area. A larger lawn and garden area is available and many other areas have been expanded. Several Boone organizations and agencies benefited during the opening ceremony, receiving charitable contributions. Checks for $250.00 were given to the Boone High School Band and the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce. $500.00 donations were made to Boone County Transportation and Boone Parks and Public Works. The Boone Fire Department was presented a check of $750.00 and the Boone Police Department received $2,500.00 for the Citizens Police Academy and the Shop With A Cop Program.
