BOONE, Iowa—Many thought they would know who the new Boone County Attorney would be by Thursday morning, but the process came to a standstill Wednesday afternoon after Kelly Mahoney requested that her letter of interest in being appointed Boone County Attorney be withdrawn. Mahoney was one of two candidates expected to be interviewed by the Boone County Board of Supervisors Wednesday evening. Dan Gonnerman, currently and Assistant Boone County Attorney, had also submitted his letter of interest in the appointment. The deadline to submit a letter of interest in the appointment was last Friday and the Supervisors had hoped to name the new County Attorney in time to replace Adria Kester who resigned effective 11:59 PM Thursday evening. Kester was recently appointed to the bench as a District Associate Judge in the 2nd Judicial District. She had replaced Jim Robbins who retired late in 2012.
Supervisor Tom Foster, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, said they were disappointed in Mahoney’s decision. He said the Board visited with Gonnerman and cancelled the scheduled interviews. He said the Board will meet and discuss their options.
