Skate Pond re-opensBOONE, Iowa—It took Mother Nature a little while to fix the problem, but sub-zero temperatures really improved the damaged ice conditions at the Skate Pond in Boone.  Park staff have been spending time making sure the ice has reformed and is safe and Wednesday announced that the pond is once again open.  Those planning a fund raiser for the Park Commission and the Parks Foundation will continue to move ahead with their plans.  Boone resident Amy Ward met with the Park Commission this month to talk about what could be done to deal with the vandalism in the parks.  The whole discussion resulted in a Chili Fundraiser, planned for this Sunday from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at the Skate Pond.  Donations will be accepted and will be directed to the Parks Foundation for use in acquiring and maintaining security equipment for the parks.  In the meantime, those wishing to volunteer and help with the warming house, you’re invited to contact Boone City Hall at 432-4211, extension 142 and leave a name and number.
