BOONE, Iowa—Last year, planned snowshoe hikes by Boone County Naturalist Emily Klein didn’t happen because of a lack of snowfall. This year started out on a better note with a nice snow cover from the December 20th snowstorm, but unseasonably mild weather has now taken care of the snow pack and, like last year, Klein has moved to holding a Winter Hike for those that are interested. Two weeks ago, dozens gathered to trek around the Don Williams Recreational Area. This Saturday, interested parties can head to the Iowa Arboretum for a walk along the Woodland Trails. The Saturday walk will last a couple of hours, beginning at 1:00. The Woodland Trails at the Arboretum are located east of the entrance. Klein still expects some wet or muddy trails, so those planning on participating should dress accordingly. The next scheduled Snowshoe Hike is in two weeks on February 2nd at Swede Point Park near Madrid.
