Blizzard Warning Tonight into Thursday

Posted on 19 December 2012 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The National Weather Service has updated the Winter Storm moving into the Midwest with a Blizzard Warning for several counties in Iowa, including Boone County.  Boone County Emergency Management Coordinator Dave Morlan says the dangerous part of the storm will be the wind, expected to increase this evening with sustained speeds of 25-to-35 mph gusting to more than 40 mph.  Morlan says serious drifting is expected and will close roads, especially in rural areas.  He also says that law enforcement and first responders sustain injuries every year, trying to rescue people that just had to go out in the storm.  Morlan says travel should be limited to only when absolutely necessary.  He also says in the case of a medical emergency such as a need to go to the hospital, it’s best to wait until emergency responders get to those needing assistance.  Morlan says make sure you prepare for the storm as you would for any other event and stay safe.
