SRO School District Statement

Posted on 18 December 2012 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—There has been quite a bit of attention paid to the discussion by the Boone School Board about possibly dropping the School Resource Officer position in the next year.  The district was going to meet with the City Council Monday and discuss the situation, but asked to be removed from the agenda prior to the meeting.  Today, Boone Superintendent Brad Manard released this prepared statement:

There have been many comments and questions regarding the School Resource Officer position in the Boone Community Schools.  The SRO was on the School Board Agenda on December 11, 2012, because new contract cost information for 2013-14 school year was provided to the district by Chief Skare.  As KWBG reported, “the Board and administration have been very pleased with the program and in particular the working relationship with Boone Police Officer Dave Powers.”  No proposal, recommendations, or decisions have been made regarding any reductions including the SRO position.  Any future recommendations will be provided to the Board of Education well in advance and discussed in multiple meetings prior to any decisions being made.  All meetings are open to the public and information regarding meetings is provided on the district Board webpage, in the Boone News Republican, and on KWBG.
