BOONE, Iowa—State Senator Jerry Behn and State Representative Chip Baltimore took time to meet with Boone County school board members and administrators Tuesday at Boone High School. The session allowed school board members to express their concerns about various issues. United Superintendent Sara Keehn encouraged both Behn and Baltimore to push for an early decision on allowable growth for the next fiscal year. She said delays will make is virtually impossible for school districts to prepare responsible budgets. The discussion did lead to Baltimore discussing possible changes in the funding mechanism for education. Keehn also encouraged legislators consider possible adjustments to categorical funding, giving districts some freedom in meeting individual district needs. The legislative session begins January 14th.
