MIAMI (AP) – The New York Knicks crushed Miami 112-82 for their fifth straight victory to move a game and a-half ahead of the Heat in the race for best record in the NBA Eastern Conference. Raymond Felton scored a season-high 27 points, and the Knicks connected on 18 3-pointers to win with star Carmelo Anthony sidelined with a hand injury.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Fourth-ranked Syracuse ran its home winning streak to 27 games by routing Long Beach State 84-53 last night. C.J. Fair had 16 points and a career-best 13 rebounds for the 7-0 Orange, who’ve won 49 straight regular-season nonconference games.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Linebacker Manti Te’O (MAN’-ty TAY’-ow) of Notre Dame won the Walter Camp national player of the year award and the Maxwell Award given the nation’s most outstanding player. On Saturday night, Te’O will try to become the first defense-only player to win the Heisman Trophy, going up against a couple of quarterbacks in Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel and Kansas State’s Collin Klein.

NEW YORK (AP) – Today is the 73rd day of the NHL lockout and hockey fans are facing another grim prospect of more weeks without hockey. After two days of optimism, talks broke off suddenly last night with acrimonious statements by both sides as to who’s at fault.
