BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council tabled consideration of funding alternatives for the Industrial Park Road paving project during their meeting Monday. City Administrator Luke Nelson requested that the matter be tabled until the next Council meeting on December 17th. Nelson said he had prepared a summary with alternatives for the Council to consider, but Monday began investigating the possibility of using Tax Increment Financing to cover the portion the City had originally agreed to pave. It was late November when city staff learned that funds allocated to the Corporal Snedden Drive Overpass project would not be available for the Industrial Park Road Paving project. With the inability to use federal funds, the agreement between the city and the county essentially fell apart. A portion of the agreement notes the city will be involved as long they have use of the federal funds. Some Council members are beginning to reconsider that position. Boone Mayor John Slight, on Tuned In on KWBG once again raised concerns about using city dollars to pave a road outside the city limits. He noted the city is annexing the industrial park, but that’s over the next thirty plus years. At the present time, the Industrial Park Road is under the jurisdiction of Boone County.
