MIAMI (AP) – NBA Commissioner David Stern says the San Antonio Spurs are facing sanctions from the league for fielding a substitute-laden lineup last night that lost 105-100 to the NBA champion Miami Heat. The Spurs played without Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili (MAN’-oo jih-NOH’-blee) and Danny Green, all sent home to rest by coach Gregg Popovich.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) – In a game between two teams about to abandon the Big East Conference, a banged-up Teddy Bridgewater came off the bench to throw two-second half touchdown passes, and John Wallace kicked a 29-yard field goal with 1:41 left to send Louisville to the BCS with a 20-17 victory against Rutgers last night. Rutgers is heading to the Big Ten and Louisville is bound for the Atlantic Coast Conference.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP)- In college basketball, Notre Dame upset eighth-ranked Kentucky 64-50 last night for its 41st victory in its last 42 home games. Eric Atkins had 16 points for the 7-1 Irish.

NEW YORK (AP) – Today is the 76th day of the NHL labor lockout and two days of negotiations with federal mediators have produced no progress. Two members from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service joined the discussions on the past two days but couldn’t bring the sides any closer.
