Meals From The Heartland Misses Goal

Posted on 12 November 2012 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The North Central Iowa Hunger Fight may have missed the ultimate goal, but it was still an awesome event that packed more than 656,000 meals for Meals From the Heartland last Friday and Saturday.  Volunteers both days gathered at United Community School and tackled the job of packaging the meals that will be distributed through the Convoy of Hope warehouse in Springfield, Missouri.  Ed Hall helped coordinate the local event and in an email past along thanks to the United School Board and the staff, Sara Keehn the Superintendent and Dave Owen.  He also thanked Fareway for providing transportation for food ingredients and equipment from Des Moines to United and to Carroll Nikkel and Nikkel and Associates for electrical assistance to operate the equipment.  Originally, Hall had said the goal was to pack 860,000 meals, but the more than 656,000 amounted to 46 pallets of food.  Hall said the hundreds of volunteers made the event a huge success.
