LOS ANGELES (AP) – Amid reports that the Los Angeles Lakers are pursuing former coach Phil Jackson to make a return, the Lakers are 2-0 since they fired coach Mike Brown last Friday. Dwight Howard had 23 points and 18 rebounds and the Lakers beat the Sacramento Kings 103-90 for interim coach Bernie Bickerstaff’s second victory on the bench.

NEW YORK (AP) – Kansas State and Oregon are now on course to play for the BCS national championship as they are top 2 teams in the BCS standings after previously No. 1 Alabama was upset by Texas A&M 29-24 on Saturday. The latest Associated Press rankings have Oregon No. 1 with K-State second.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Jabari Greer tipped away a potential game-winning touchdown pass intended for Roddy White and the New Orleans Saints handed the Atlanta Falcons their first loss, 31-27. The 9-1 Falcons were the last team to lose in the NFL, much to the relief of the 1972 Miami Dolphins, the last team to go undefeated in the NFL.

AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) – Brad Keselowski will take a 20-point lead over five-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson next weekend in Miami in the final race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. This would be the first Sprint Cup title for Keselowski and team owner Roger Penske.

AVONDALE, Ariz. (AP) – Yesterday’s race at Phoenix International Raceway was won by Kevin Harvick, who snapped a 44-race losing streak in a crash-marred finish. But the race may well be remembered for a wild incident involving the crews for Jeff Gordon and Clint Bowyer (BOY’-ur) brawling in the garage after Gordon intentionally wrecked Bowyer on the track.
