CHICAGO (AP) – The Chicago Bulls handed the Orlando Magic their first loss of the season, 99-93 last night. Luol Deng (LOO’-ul dehng) led the Bulls with 23 points and Joakim Noah (JOH’-keem NOH’-ah) added 20 points, nine rebounds and five blocks.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP)–Russell Westbrook did it at both ends of the court last night for the Oklahoma City Thunder, who cruised past Toronto 108-88. Westbrook led the Thunder with 19 points and also held the Raptors top scorer, Kyle Lowry, to two points before Lowry left with a sprained ankle late in the first half.
DENVER (AP) – Andre Iguodala (ihg-woh-DAH’-lah) scored six of his 17 points over the final three minutes to help the Denver Nuggets hold off the Detroit Pistons 109-97 for their first win of the season in their fourth game. Detroit and Washington are the only two NBA teams without a victory.
NEW YORK (AP) – New Orleans will be the site of the new marquee bowl game between the Southeastern Conference and Big 12. The game will still be called the Sugar Bowl and will be played in the Superdome, which beat out Cowboys Stadium and other sites for the game.
SAN DIEGO (AP) – The season-opening basketball game between No. 9 Syracuse and No. 20 San Diego State on the flight deck of the decommissioned aircraft carrier USS Midway has been moved from Friday night to Sunday afternoon due to a strong chance of rain and wind in the San Diego area. San Diego State was scheduled to play San Diego Christian on Sunday night, but that game has been moved to Tuesday night.
