NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Drew Brees tossed a pair of TD passes and Patrick Robinson returned an interception 99 yards for a touchdown in the New Orleans Saints’ 28-13 win over Philadelphia last night. The Saints improved to 3-5 while the skidding Eagles lost their fourth in a row to fall to 3-5.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – The New York Knicks are 3-0 for the first time since the 1999-2000 NBA season. Carmelo Anthony scored 21 points and JR Smith had 17 to lead the New York Knicks to a 110-88 win over the Philadelphia 76ers last night.
MIAMI (AP) –Ray Allen became the 24th player to eclipse the 23,000-point mark when he scored 15 in the Miami Heat’s 124-99 win over Phoenix last night. The 3-1 Heat are averaging 111.8 points per game in the early going.
NEW YORK (AP) – Detroit slugger Miguel Cabrera, baseball’s first Triple Crown winner since Carl Yastrzemski (yah-STREM’-skee) in 1967, racked up some more hardware last night. Cabrera beat out Pittsburgh center fielder Andrew McCutchen and Los Angeles Angels rookie Mike Trout for player of the year as voted on by their fellow major leaguers.
NEW YORK (AP)- Hockey fans have some reason for optimism that the NHL season might be beginning and the 51-day lockout ending. Both sides are resuming formal talks today in hopes of hammering out a new collective bargaining agreement.
