BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Hospital and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach-Boone County have completed a babysitter basics training course for more than two-dozen 5th and 6th grade youth. The course involves four classes with assignments and a workbook to complete between classes. The youth learn the responsibilities of being a babysitter, what employers expect, safety and handling emergencies, basic first aid and more. Several volunteers also participate by making presentations and Boone County Hospital personnel teach first aid and rescue breathing. To gain certification, participants need to complete the Babysitter Basics workbook. Additional courses on Babysitter Basics will be offered for students in Ogden and Madrid.
