PILOT MOUND, Iowa—Residents of Pilot Mound are finding out today that they have a water problem and it’s a pretty serious problem. Boone County Emergency Manager Dave Morlan has been working with city officials as they work to deal with the issue. Morlan says the city’s main pump is working, but only able to produce a fraction of the water needed for the community. A second pump is being used on a second well, but the production is still barely able to keep up with demand. Pilot Mound residents face three issues, they have a boil order for water, they have a nitrate problem and just a basic lack of quantity. Morlan says residents should first conserve all the water they can. Secondly, water should not be used for infants or small children. Finally he says any water that’s used needs to be boiled. Talks are underway with Xenia Rural Water about a possible connection to their distribution system but no final decision has been made at this time.
