Ryan Vogelsong got the win going seven innings, while Chris Carpenter was the loser. Giants second baseman Marco Scutaro (SKOO’-tah-roh) left the game with a hip injury and is undergoing an MRI today.
DETROIT (AP) – Game 3 of the American League Championship Series is tonight in Detroit. The Tigers won the opening two games in New York and are sending Justin Verlander to the mound against Phil Hughes.
SAN DIEGO (AP) – Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos roared back from a 24-0 halftime deficit last night to beat the Chargers in San Diego, 34-24. It ranks as one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history. Manning completed 13 of 14 second half passes for 167 yards and three touchdowns.
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) – The Baltimore Ravens will be without linebacker Ray Lewis for the rest of the season. The former Super Bowl MVP tore his right triceps during Sunday’s 31-29 victory over Dallas. The 37-year-old has been invited to 13 Pro Bowls.
NEW YORK (AP) – Negotiations are resuming today in Toronto in the NHL labor dispute. Today’s meeting is the first in five days, following two days of meetings in New York last week.
