Candidate Forum

Posted on 15 October 2012 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—KWBG Radio and the Boone News Republican have invited local candidates to take part in a forum on Tuesday evening in the Auditorium at the DMACC Boone Campus.  The forum is a little earlier than in the past, and was pushed up because of the number of early ballots being cast.  Candidates for Boone County offices and State Legislative seats were invited, but some had scheduling conflicts.  Tuesday night is also the same night as the Presidential Debate.

The local candidate forum will begin at 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on KWBG AM 1590 and on line at, click on listen here in the upper left corner.  Audience members will be asked to submit questions prior to the forum.  Listeners are also invited to submit questions that may be used on the air.  Submit questions to

  2. Steve Kruck Says:

“There was a lot of discussion about property taxes over the last few years. What should the state do about property taxes, if anything?

A question for Olson and Baltimore:

Health insurance costs are a significant concern to private business owners and employees. Most employees of private businesses have to pay for part of their health insurance every month. Do you think government employees should have to pay for part of their health insurance?

  4. Dave Troe Says:

A question for Olson and Baltimore:

I read that our state recently agreed to give a company $100 million of tax credits as an incentive for it to build a new fertilizer plant in Iowa. Do you support or oppose such a use of tax credits for these projects?

A question for Olson and Baltimore; What is your plan for growing our state economy and putting unemployed Iowans back to work?

  6. Brian Kraft Says:

This question is for Chip: Most Republicans are opposed to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, AKA Obamacare, while most Democrats are not opposed to the law.
Jefferson said that states have a right and a duty to nullify federal laws that are unconstitutional.
Assuming you are against Obamacare will you personally propose legislation to nullify Obamacare at the state level?

  7. Stephanie Maguire Says:

For Behn and Stotts, Baltimore and Olson,

Last legislative session, Rep.Kim Pearson introduced a bill that would completely outlaw all abortions. Among other things, the bill makes it so a doctor that performs and abortion commits “feticide” — a Class A felony, which is punishable by life imprisonment without the chance for parole even in the case of rape, incest and the life of the mother. If a bill like this were to be brought up again, would you support it? yes or no, please.

  8. Delaney Brakey Says:

For Jerry Behn and Chip Baltimore:
Knowing you support a ban on abortion, what if a woman in your life were pregnant and told that she will lose her life if she doesn’t have an abortion. As she lay in the hospital, knowing that she is dying, how would you say goodbye?

  9. Phyllis Holland Says:

As a young person, I was prescribed birth control pills as a solution to severe menstrual conditions. Would you force persons such as myself to “prove” they were not sexually active before agreeing to provide the medication?
