ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – The Texas Rangers send out Japanese phenom Yu Darvish in their one-game AL wild card playoff against Baltimore, which is going with 9-13 Joe Saunders, a late-season acquisition from Arizona. The winner of this game advances to play the New York Yankees, who own the best record in the AL.
NEW YORK (AP) – Unable to find a way to split up $3 billion in revenue with the locked-out players, the NHL canceled the first two weeks of the regular season. It isn’t clear if the games could be made up in the unlikely event that a settlement is reached soon.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Southern California broke open a close game in the second half and beat Utah 38-28 in the Trojans’ first visit to Salt Lake City in 95 seasons. Matt Barkley completed 23 of 30 passes for 303 yards and three TDs for the 13th-ranked Trojans, who improved to 4-1.
ST. LOUIS (AP) – The St. Louis Rams are over .500 for the first time since 2006 after upsetting the previously undefeated Arizona Cardinals 17-3 last night. Sam Bradford tossed a 52-yard touchdown pass to rookie Chris Givens as the Rams improved to 3-2 under coach Jeff Fisher.
