Open Burning in Boone to be Delayed

Posted on 28 September 2012 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—A ban on open burning in Boone County will delay the open burning of yard waste in the City of Boone according to Boone City Administrator Luke Nelson.  Nelson this past week said the dry conditions in Boone County have kept the Burn Ban in effect and that will mean that residents that look forward to burning their yard waste, will not be able to do so until the ban is lifted.  The city’s ordinance permits open burning of yard waste beginning October 1st and continuing until November 15th.  Last year, the Council did change the length of time for fall burning.  Nelson says as long as the Burn Ban is in affect, residents may want to try the free yard waste drop at the Boone County Landfill.  The Council could look at making an adjustment in open burning, if and when the Burn Ban is lifted.  Nelson’s comments were made during the KWBG News/Public Affairs Program “Tuned In” on Wednesday.  The program can be heard on line here or downloaded here.
