The Cardinals spanked Philadelphia 27-6 as Kevin Kolb (kahb) tossed three TDs, the Falcons routed San Diego 27-3 as Matt Ryan threw touchdowns to three different receivers and Matt Schaub tossed four TD passes as Houston beat Denver 31-25 to go to 3-0 for the first time in franchise history.
BALTIMORE (AP) – Justin Tucker kicked a 27-yard field goal as time expired as the Baltimore Ravens rallied for a 31-30 victory over New England. Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith caught six passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns on a day when he learned his younger brother had died in a motorcycle accident in rural Virginia.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – After opening their season with decisive victories over playoff teams Green Bay and Detroit, the San Francisco 49ers stubbed their toes in the Twin Cities. Christian Ponder tossed two TDs in the Minnesota Vikings’ 24-13 upset of the 49ers.
CINCINNATI (AP) – Adrian Gonzalez hit a pair of solo homers off Homer Bailey in power the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds that let them stay three games out of the final wild card spot in the National League. Reds manager Dusty Baker briefly visited the players in the clubhouse after his release from a Chicago hospital where he was treated the last four days for an irregular heartbeat, but once again the Reds were managed by coach Chris Speier (SPY’-ur).
TORONTO (AP) – The NHL and NHL Players’ Association are set to meet for the first time in nearly two weeks, but a discussion about a new collective bargaining agreement isn’t on the agenda. Instead, the sides will discuss the accounting for last season’s hockey-related revenue when they sit down together this morning in Toronto.
