UNDATED, Iowa—Mediacom customers from Ankeny north to Ames to Boone and up to Fort Dodge suffered a lengthy service outage Tuesday night to Wednesday morning.  The outing was the result of a contractor slicing a fiber optic cable on the south side of Ankeny after 7:00 Tuesday evening.  Because of the depth of the cable and the amount of damage, it took until nearly 5:00 Wednesday morning to get service restored.  The severed fiber cable affected all Mediacom services.
