ATLANTA (AP) – Matt Ryan tossed two touchdown passes and outplayed four-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning as the Atlanta Falcons built a 20-0 lead and beat Denver 27-21 last night. Manning was intercepted three times on the Broncos’ first three drives as the Falcons joined five other teams at 2-0 after two weeks of the season.
MIAMI (AP) – Dan Uggla hit a three-run home run in the first inning, Martin (mahr-TEEN’) Prado tied a career best with four hits and the Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins 7-5. Tim Hudson beat the Marlins for the fifth straight time as Atlanta moved within five games of the idle Washington Nationals in the NL East.
CHICAGO (AP) – The Chicago White Sox nipped Detroit 5-4 in a pivotal makeup game to increase their lead in the AL Central to three games over the Tigers. Omar Infante’s (in-fahn-TAYZ’) throwing error on a potential double play helped Chicago score two runs in the fifth inning.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – The Texas Rangers will get their best postseason pitcher back next year. Colby Lewis, who has been out since elbow surgery in July, has agreed to a $2 million, one-year contract extension for 2013.
