BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council has gone on record as formally supporting efforts to establish a dog park in Boone. The Boone City Parks Commission has already selected a site in McHose Park that will provide space for the park. In fact, Parks staff have been doing work to clear the site and make it suitable to fill the needs of a dog park. Donna and Bill Greenley recently moved to Boone, but had been involved with the development of a dog park in Ottumwa. The Greenleys presented the concept to the Council Monday, explaining their experience and thoughts about what could be done in Boone. The Canine Corral would be located on just over 2 acres and would be fenced. Users would be required to clean up after their dogs and there would be additional requirements, such as up to date rabies vaccinations. The Council’s vote of support took place because the facility would be included in the city’s liability insurance. The Greenleys are scheduled to be on the KWBG News/Public Affairs Program “Tuned In” later this month.
