UP 844 in Boone for Pufferbilly Days

Posted on 07 September 2012 by KWBG

Pufferbilly Days™  2012 coincides with the Union Pacific’s 150th Anniversary, highlighting the strong connection between the railroad and our proud community.

Union Pacific’s Steam Locomotive No. 844, the last steam engine built for the railroad, is on display Friday and Saturday, along with the Promontory, a 1962-vintage baggage car transformed into a state-of-the-art traveling exhibit. The Promontory allows visitors to interact with history via a 65-inch video touch screen highlighting many of the communities the car will be visiting in 2012.  On Friday, at least four Operation Lifesaver excursions treated residents to ride to Ogden and back in the Columbine car, proclaimed to be the “flower of travel comfort.”

Visitors also will be able to see UP’s mini-train, considered its most popular Goodwill Ambassador, and take advantage of free giveaways, such as pennants and coloring books. The railroad’s heritage fleet  is on display from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 7th and Delaware streets.
