Council Sets Public Hearing on Rezoning

Posted on 05 September 2012 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—First the matter was tabled because Council members wanted to understand the connection between a request to rezone several parcels of land on the northwest side of the city and their efforts to update the livestock portion of the zoning ordinance.  Now the rezoning request will begin with a Public Hearing during the Council meeting on September 17th.  That was the same meeting the Council had expected to receive a draft of the amendment to the zoning ordinance dealing with livestock.  When the matter was raised earlier this year, those residents with acreages and livestock, primarily horses, were concerned what the new livestock controls would do to their property, which happened to be zoned for residential purposes.  Since then, more than a dozen property owners have petitioned and received a positive recommendation to rezone their property agricultural, which fits the current land use.  Rezoning the property is yet another amendment to the zoning ordinance and could also require three readings.
