HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) – Denny Hamlin captured the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway Sunday night for his fourth victory this season. Hamlin won a two-lap green-white-checkered flag finish, holding off Jeff Gordon, to post back-to-back wins on the NASCAR circuit.

NEW YORK (AP) – Andy Roddick’s retirement party rocks on. The 2003 U.S. Open champion, who last week announced he would retire after he was done at Flushing Meadows, advanced to the fourth round with a 7-5, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Italy’s Fabio Fognini (foh-NEE’-nee)

NEW YORK (AP) – Mark Reynolds hit a three-run shot in the sixth inning for his second two-homer game of the weekend series and the Baltimore Orioles closed in on the AL East-leading New York Yankees with an 8-3 victory. That leaves the Orioles two games back of the Yanks with 29 to play.

UNDATED (AP) – The NFL referees union says the league is “engaged in a misinformation campaign” following unsuccessful negotiations earlier in the weekend. The two sides failed to reach an agreement Saturday when they met for the third day in a row, and the league said it’s proceeding with replacement officials starting with Wednesday night’s regular-season opener between Dallas and the New York Giants.

NORTON, Mass. (AP) – Louis Oosthuizen (WUHST’-hy-zehn) ran off seven straight birdies to race by Rory McIlroy and take a three-shot lead into the final round of the Deutsche (DOY’-chuh) Bank Championship. Tiger Woods shot a 68 and is six shots off the lead heading into Sunday’s final round.
