BOONE, Iowa—A 34-year old Boone woman has died as a result of injuries sustained in a car-pedestrian accident Thursday evening.  Riann Michelle Behm was walking westward on Hawkeye Drive shortly after 9:00 when she was struck by a car, also traveling west and driven by 19-year old Russell Latree of Boone.  Boone Police were called about a medical emergency, but upon arrival discovered the accident.  Behm was flown by air ambulance from the scene to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines where she passed away from the injuries she had sustained.  Latree and a second person walking with Behm were not injured.  Boone Police requested and received investigative assistance from the Iowa State Patrol.  Commander John Sloter of the Boone Police Department noted the area where the accident occurred does not have sidewalks or street lights.  The State Patrol is completing the investigation.

My thoughts go out to the persons family that died and also to the person who hit the person. I on thursday morning traveling down Marshall street come upon many college age runners going north on the east side wearing dark clothing at 6:00 A.M. in the morning. I assume they were trying to get into shape for the season but were not being smart as running in the street at that time in the morning in the dark with out refective clothing.
