Fifth-ranked Madrid started its football season on the road at Johnston Stadium with a 62-yard touchdown run by Colton Braunschweig that put the Tigers up 8 – 0 on Des Moines Christian in the first quarter. The second period was scoreless, then Braunschweig had a two-yard t-d dive in the third quarter, but the Lions caught Madrid with two scores in the fourth period as Des Moines Christian topped the Tigers, 21 – 14. Madrid will look to crack the win column next week when it hosts Van Meter, a 39 – 21 winner over Earlham.
