Posted on 01 June 2012 by KWBG

BOONE – Pastor Andrea Kraushaar of First United Methodist Church is leading the charge for a summer lunch program in Boone.  Together with the Iowa Department of Education,  several  local churches are coming together to make sure that area kids, ages 1 to 18 can have  at least one meal a day.The meals will be prepared at First United Methodist Church then distributed to four other locations in Boone: American Legion Cabin at 1928 Boone St., Marion Street United Methodist Church at 717 W. Fifth St., Boone Open Bible Church at 1224 Hancock Dr., and Salvation Army Church at 509 Benton St. No registration or identification is required to take part in this program. Lunch are available between 11:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. Monday through Friday starting on Monday, June 11  through Wednesday, August 15.  School in Boone is scheduled to begin on August 16th. The program is starting out with cold lunches, but all meals meet Food and Drug Administration nutritional standards. Children are allowed to take their fruit and vegetable home with them, but all other food must be eaten at the site. Volunteers are still needed  to help prepare the meals and distribute lunches, supervise the children and clean up afterward. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact  First United Methodist Church at (515) 432-4660.
