BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Hospital, like many critical access hospitals in the country are trying to determine their course of action to incorporate mandated digital records. Hospital Chief Executive Office Joe Smith says they have asked the Centers for Medicare Services for some idea about reimbursement for money that’s spent to purchase and install a system. So far only a few questions have been answered. Smith noted that technical consultant estimated the hospital would need to spend $500,000 of it’s own money. The hospitals auditing firm BKD has made an estimate of $1.5 million. A decision to move ahead is still expected in the next several weeks.
