Passport Law Changing

Posted on 17 March 2011 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—Boone County residents have been picking up passports in the County Recorders office at the rate of about 400 per year. But with a new law taking affect in May, something will need to change. Supervisor Tom Foster says the new law does not allow an office that handles other vital records like birth certificates to issue passports. Foster says because the Recorders office is one room and the staff is small, a change will need to be made. He says the Board feels the service is needed at the Courthouse and they will try to put together a plan to keep it there.
