Fish Kill Project Update

Posted on 15 February 2011 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone County Conservation Board is considering a proposal that could restore a stronger fishery program to Don Williams Lake. Conservation Director Andy Hockenson was successful in obtaining a grant from the DNR to make repairs on the dam. While that takes place, it also creates an opportunity to rid the lake of the gizzard shad. DNR Fisheries Biologist Ben Dodd says Don Williams Lake had a reputation for good pan fishing but the gizzard shad and silting have hampered the program. If the project can move forward, it could take place in late summer or early fall.
