Budget Process Underway

Posted on 06 January 2011 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council began it’s budget process this week with some good news and some not so good news. Boone City Administrator Luke Nelson had said last week that he was pleased with the city’s financial position. During a budget work session, Nelson told the Council that progress had been made establishing reserves in accounts like the general fund. At the same time, the Police and Fire Retirement Fund, managed by the state, is forcing larger increases onto cities. Nelson told the Council he expects some improvement in Road Use Tax revenue, but he also expects increases in operational expenses. The next budget work session for the Council will be Monday when the Hotel/Motel Tax distribution is reviewed.
