DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – The Iowa Cubs play at Omaha today in the
Pacific Coast League, hoping to bounce back after two losses at
home against Nashville. The Sounds topped the Cubs 6-4 yesterday.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Chicago Cubs have purchased the contract
of left-handed pitcher Scott Maine from Triple-A Iowa and optioned
right-hander Justin Berg to Iowa. The 25-year-old Maine has split
this season between Iowa and Double-A Tennessee but had not pitched
in the majors.

WASHINGTON (AP) – Carlos Zambrano has continued his resurgence
since rejoining the Chicago Cubs’ rotation. He gave up one run on
five hits over seven-plus innings as the Cubs won 5-4 at Washington
yesterday. The team improved to 2-0 under interim manager Mike
Quade.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – The Big Ten’s expansion to 12 teams and
switch to divisional play next year may lead to changes for some
rivalry games. Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez says
officials are trying to preserve the biggest traditional rivalry
game at each school, but competitive balance will determine the
divisions.
